Who or what is Jack and Samson? It’s an idea, its a mindset. All men, all fathers are called be to two great men. Jack – The jack of all trades: A teacher and a mentor, a craftsman, a father, and most importantly a Man of God. Secondly, we are called to be a warrior and a protector. A man of strength and a man of wisdom, Samson.

God has not commissioned us to be weak men or to be passivists, but he has called us to be great men and to live lives of influence and purpose. So much of today’s culture has empowered us to accept mediocrity, to settle for comfort and forget that we are capable of greatness. Jack & Samson is a push back on that lie. We may be flawed (Samson surely was) but we are forgiven, and we are empowered by Jesus to press on into the fray.
There are a lot of groups and organizations out there that encouraging a similar message, but I found myself feeling alone, feeling that I wasn’t connecting to so many of those ideals. I am not a soldier, a first responder, or a performance athlete. I want to start by saying, I am not trying to criticize those pursuits and if they connect with you soul then by all mean press on, but for me, the “military” ideas and the “navy seal” style approach, just didn’t connect or inspire me, it always left me feeling like an actor, playing a role. I tried for years to cultivate that personality and was never successful because it wasn’t who God created me to be. Samson was strong, powerful and a warrior, but a soldier he was not. He was flawed but God was with him.
I came across the question a while back about what obsesses me, what am I passionate about… and I thought I knew the answer. I had always been pulled towards a "gearhead" lifestyle. But the more I thought about it, the more I dwelled on it, I began to see i was seeking my path, not God's. So, in reality, what obsesses me? Well here it is. The idea that men need to be men, that we need adventure and challenge that allow the opportunity to rise to the occasion. That men should be strong, we should be providers, we should be protectors, and we should be willing to overcome the challenges we face, not hide from them. We should cultivate a spirit of meekness, in the truest sense of the word. Comfort and safety are often cowardice in disguise, sometimes we just need a little courage and in the end charge into the dust and figure out the path as we go. So wether we are 4 or 40, we need to seek out the opportunity to connect with God purpose, with our purpose and use that to build and inspire others, to build God's kingdom
As fathers, as husbands and as men of God, we should be bold, brave, and willing to take on what comes. Passing that spirit of adventure and perseverance to our sons and daughters, preparing the next generations. Have some style, be bold, be inspired, seek challenges, and be relentless in pursuit to the finish line. The idea of Jack & Samson was born when I realized that if I felt like there was a void in men’s ministry, they surely others would too.
